Lower School Maths Challenge

Lower School enjoyed a morning of town planning last Wednesday as part of their maths lesson – focusing on nets and
units. Working in teams they decided on a town name and allocated their roles: Town Planner, Architect, Engineer, Quantity Surveyor and Council Official. Some of their challenges included: identifying what a town needs, creating sturdy bridges using triangulation, and calculating the correct ratio of units used to represent buildings.

After justifying their town creation decisions to a panel of judges, Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes were awarded to groups in both Year 7 and 8. Ms Caston, Head of Lower School, said: “Well done to everyone for applying your mathematical skills to solve the challenges. We particularly loved your attention to detail and green credentials with the addition of solar panels and a wind generator in one of the models!”
