The annual Anna Airy Awards Exhibition showcases the wealth of emerging artistic talent among young people in the local area between the ages of 16 and 18.
Over 50 students from various schools all over Suffolk, who studied GCSE or A Level art last year had their artwork selected for the exhibition. The exhibition historically includes the awarding of two major prizes, the Anna Airy Award and the Ipswich Art Society Award. Additional awards are given to recognise different artistic talents.
A very well attended private viewing of the selected artwork was held on the evening of Monday 16 November. Professor Simon Read, Associate Professor of Fine Art at Middlesex University, was invited to select the prize winners. He praised the exhibition, commenting: “There was so much insightful, well executed and passionate work in this show that it was hugely difficult for me to make a judgement”.
Four of our former Year 13 students were shortlisted for the award – Archie R, Sam F-C, Ellie Fand Rose J – and they received certificates of commendation for their artwork. The fact that so many students had their work selected was also an accolade in itself – well done to each of the students.
