Operation Smile is a go!

We are extremely proud to say that Ipswich School is the first school in the UK to be partnering with the charity Operation Smile. The school’s MedSoc students will be helping to raise the profile of the charity within our school over the next year, and had their photo taken last week in their promotional Operation Smile t-shirts.

Operation Smile is an international medical charity providing free surgery for children with cleft lip and palates in low and middle income countries all over the world. Teams of volunteers from a variety of medical specialities travel around the world to carry out cleft surgery and support countries where there is little cleft care available for young people. Operation Smile has also set up 27 permanent cleft care centres in 18 different countries.

Mr Calver, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, organises MedSoc and he said: “It is a brilliant charity and it is going to give our MedSoc students something to focus on.” He added: “Not only will they raise awareness of the charity, the students will have the chance to learn more about the importance of this type of surgery, which could help them in their medical and dental school applications.” If you wish to find out more about Operation Smile, you can go to their website: operationsmile.org.uk.

The students are aiming to raise enough money to fix 10 smiles, so keep an eye out for publicity around the school for events, including a bake sale.
