International Women’s Day

On March 8 every year, we joyfully celebrate all the excellent achievements by women as part of International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’ and appreciates the contribution of women and girls around the world to build a sustainable future. Women have fought for a long period of time to achieve equal value as men in society, for example getting the chance to vote and to be paid the same amount for doing the same job. International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Things to do on International Women’s Day
1. Say something to your hero. Think of a woman that you admire. Or someone that inspires you and helps you. She can be one of your friends or even your mother! What do you want to say to them? Maybe saying thank you to them as they always support you. Or you can be the one that supports them.

2. Wear purple. There is a non-uniform day for Years 7 and 8 on Tuesday – why not wear something purple to show your support.

3. Speak out about what is important to you. Be brave to speak up. Be confident to tell people what you think is important.

4. Vote in the Occasional online poll. Turn to page 2 to read about our influential women and then vote to decide Ipswich School’s most influential woman who has broken down gender stereotypes.

5. Listen to the school’s special podcast. Eva and Connie from Year 13 speak to former student Angie about Consciousness Club.
