Ipswich School’s Headmaster, Nicholas Weaver, said how proud he was of this year’s A Level students, as the results were announced this morning (Thursday 17 August). He said:
“I am delighted that our biggest ever cohort of 151 students has achieved such outstanding results, with over 80% of A Level exams graded A*-B, over one in six exams at A*, and 100% pass rate in all 26 subjects. Well done to them all!”
He added:
“While we had been expecting a return to 2019 marking levels, we are delighted to say that our students have outperformed our 2019 results, with more A* grades and a higher A*-B pass rate. In addition, 70% of our BTEC students achieved Distinction or higher, which is fantastic for this group, too. Our thanks go to all our staff who have helped our students throughout their time in our Sixth Form.”
Some of the Ipswich School student successes include Lizzy Merrigan (1 A* and 2 A) and Lucy Plowman (3 A) who are both off to study veterinary medicine at the Royal Veterinary College and Bristol University respectively, Joshua Moussa (1 A* and 2 A) who will be studying medicine at UEA, and Oliver Kinsman (3 A) who is going to Cardiff University to study dentistry.
Kevin Deegan achieved 2 A* and 2 A grades and will be studying maths and statistics at King’s College London, while Mille Laver achieved 1 A* and 2 A grades and will be studying economics at Bath University. Isabel Montgomery is going to study English literature and Spanish at Manchester University after achieving 2 A*, 1 A and an A* in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and Dylan Jimenez-Morales will be going to Durham University to study English literature after also achieving an A* in his EPQ and 2 A*, 1 A and 1 B in his A Level subjects.
Alice Althen and Charlotte Cathcart ran the school’s student Show Choir while in Year 13, and have places to study musical theatre or music – Alice achieved 1 A* and 2 A and will be studying musical theatre at Trinity Laban in London, while Charlotte achieved 2 A* and 1A and has a place to study music at York University.

“I am so proud of everything our Year 13 students have achieved during their time here. Not only excellent exam results, but also on stage, in music, their community work and on the sports field – they have taken advantage of every opportunity available to them. We wish them all well as they go on to university and other exciting futures.”
