Classicists explore statues

Last Wednesday, the Year 11 Classics students went on an exciting trip to Cambridge. Luckily for the Occasional, our very own journalist Flo W was on the trip, so we were able to ask her about her interesting day.

Poppy S: Where did you go and what did you see?
Flo W: We went to the Cambridge University Classics Department where we saw a wide variety of the artefacts we have been studying which were identical to the originals!
PS: Do you think witnessing the artefacts in person helped to enhance your knowledge of the subject?
FW: Yes, seeing the artefacts really helped in developing our understanding of them as we
could see the prescribed sources for our GCSEs in great detail, which will greatly help us answer questions in the future. Also we were utterly shocked at how huge the statues were – the statue of Hercules towered way above our heads!
PS: What was your favourite aspect of the trip?
FW: My personal favourite part of the trip was the tour we were given of the museum by an excellent guide as I learnt all about the progression of both Roman and Greek sculpture which was extremely interesting.

Thank you so much to Miss Hutton and Mrs Deering for allowing us this tremendous time!
